“Even if you haven't sown in October, you won't get much harvest.”
October, the second month of autumn. It’s the month of the first rains or the first cold days, but also a month with plenty of sunny days still... It is the ideal month that offers us fresh seasonal vegetables, as well as wonderful fruits, from delicious late-season grapes to early mandarins.

In October, we carry out some important tasks in our garden to ensure its good appearance in the spring. Some of these tasks include:

Lawn care

Fertilization: It provides the soil with essential nutrients such as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus. This strengthens the root system of our lawn!

Aeration of the roots: It is necessary so that rainwater and air can penetrate more easily into its root system to strengthen it.
Reseeding: This is the period when, if we have any dry spots, we can reseed to have a healthy lawn in the spring. After selecting the appropriate seed, we spread it evenly over the surface and make sure it goes slightly below the soil. Initially, we water regularly to keep the soil moist, and once it has sprouted evenly, we reduce watering!
Pruning and fertilizing ornamental plants
For the ornamental plants in our garden, we begin with light pruning to remove dry and weak branches for renewal. Then, to boost their autumn growth, we apply complete granular fertilizer. We also check the frequency of watering (especially if we have an automatic watering system), as with the rain and increased humidity, we need to reduce the frequency of watering.

Planting bulbs
In October, we can plant autumn flower bulbs that will give us their beautiful blooms and colors at the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Some of these include: freesias, hyacinths, amaryllises, and tulips.

Planting vegetables
It is also the month when we can create our own vegetable garden, with vegetables that will give us their produce in winter or early spring. Some of the vegetables we plant during this period are: cabbage, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, onions. They can be planted in the garden, but also in pots if we lack space.
