"November, plowing and olives, work never stops"
"When November comes, Winter creeps in."
November is the last month of Autumn. Garden tasks begin to decrease and, by December, almost come to a halt. November is the month to carry out the necessary preparations to ready our garden for Winter’s arrival. Here are some of these tasks:
► Gather dry leaves to prevent fungus growth.
► Fertilize ornamental and evergreen plants to make the most of this month’s rainfall. Do not fertilize deciduous plants as they will soon start shedding their leaves in preparation for Winter dormancy.
► Reduce watering frequency and the amount of water used.
► Support weak plants, and move the more sensitive ones to spots with better sunlight and shelter from the wind.
► Plant seasonal vegetables such as lettuce, carrots, broccoli, and cabbage.
► Give the lawn its final trim if it’s a warm-weather variety, and reseed any bare spots.
► If you wish to sow a cool-season lawn, now is the time, strictly until early December.
► You can plant bare-root fruit trees.
► Harvest olives and extract olive oil.
► Plant autumn flowers and bulbs to add color to the garden and for flowering in late Winter.
► Harvest seasonal fruits and vegetables, like apples, pomegranates, lemons, the last cucumbers and zucchinis, and the first cabbages, cauliflowers, broccolis, and lettuces.
